I had set up a pension some years ago, my job took me to all corners of the world ending up being a resident and taxpayer in Australia. I am still working and for the past 6 years in China, although I regard Australia home. | “Having become self-employed at the age of 58, I was looking to use my previously-accumulated pension pot to supplement my income until I reach state pension age. By researching on the web I decided that a fixed term annuity would be the right product as it would keep my options open in the future by giving me a guaranteed maturity value. I found that there were several online annuity calculators available, but they all had the “catch” that using them would trigger a potentially annoying sales call. The Annuity quotes varied as much as £2000 per year depending on the company you were talking to and I had 3 different policies with different companies which had to be added together. Being a non resident in the UK was giving me major problems too, I had looked in depth into the QROPS type of pension available now for UK nationals living abroad but because I wanted total security with no risk to the pension pot I discounted this option.
All through the process which took me about 3 months to research, contacting many companies for quotes etc, researching everything on the internet extensively about the various options available to me, there was one company that always came out with the top quote. I had tried to get the best deal for my money and Retirement Professionals achieved this for me. As a company they were very professional and patient with me in their dealings and I just can’t say enough good things about them. “In January this year I realised that I am nearing that age when soon I will no longer be working, or more to the point I no longer want to work. As well as the state pension when I reach that magical age, I also have a private pension with my present employer. However I also realised I had a further two private pensions from an employer I worked with between 1990 to 2000. The thought arose what to do with them and what can you do with them, as I had no knowledge of pensions and how I could get to the money. An initial search on the internet found a number of sites which only made the issue more confusing, coupled with this is a lot of bad press regarding financial institutions and advisors. I took the plunge and picked three pension advisors as well as the two insurance companies my money was invested with to see what was on the table for the rest of my life. Although the two insurance companies gave me an estimate I had been warned that they would probably be low, not only from press releases but also from a friend who had left his search too late and suffered for it. After some initial correspondence and conversations I decided to let two companies vie for my benefit. Also during the consultation process the government changed the rule with regard to private pensions which meant more thought and explanations from the specialists. During the procedure of finding what to do Retirement professionals were very sympathetic to my ignorance of private pensions and explained everything to the letter in simple terms so even I could understand. Although there final annuity figure was the highest quote I received it was not the only reason I decided to let them look after my private pension requirements.
